KOMOCO Unveiled  | Creation for École De Danse Contemporaine De Montréal

  • École De Danse Contemporaine De Montréal 1435 Rue de Bleury Montréal, QC, H3A 2H7 Canada (map)

Faculty: Arthur Bouilliol, Glenda Gheller

Description: Komoco Unveiled is a visceral exploration of transformation and growth, inspired by the tale of Pinocchio but refracted through the lens of Komoco’s dynamic movement language. In this fragment of a larger work, the piece delves into the primal, physical process of change. The dancers' bodies, charged with tension and release, become living vessels for the emotional and psychological metamorphosis that mirrors just an extract of the journey of the carved wooden puppet awakening to a world of complexity, temptation, and self-realization.

At the heart of KOMOCO Unveiled lies a raw, intimate investigation into the body's ability to express the nuances of personal evolution. With a focus on physicality over narrative, the work unveils the dancers' most visceral impulses—moments of longing, confusion, resistance, and clarity—as they embody the subtle forces that shape identity. There is no overt storyline here; instead, the dancers embody the very essence of change: the conflict between desire, restraint and the confrontation with one's own vulnerability.

Blurring the boundaries between dance, theater, and performance art, KOMOCO Unveiled reveals the transformative power of the body and the untold stories it carries. With an emphasis on raw presence and emotional depth, the performance allows space for the audience to interpret the journey of growth and self-discovery on their own terms, inviting them into a deeply human, often unpredictable exploration of what it means to evolve.

This tailored performance will be performed by the students of EDCM in the presence of live audiences for 4 performances in Montreal.

Premiere: May 21, 2025 at Salle Françoise Sullivan/ Wilder Building, Montreal (Canada)
