In Japanese, “Sora” (空) is translated as “sky” or “emptiness”, but the meaning of the word goes deeper: “Sora” describes the boundlessness and openness of space, the immeasurable expanse that surrounds us and conveys a sense of freedom and possibility.
The new dance piece “SORA” by Sofia Nappi and her company KOMOCO explores the empty space and thus one of KOMOCO's two fundamental fields of research: the preoccupation with empty space is now brought to the next level.
Sofia Nappi and KOMOCO explore this dynamic, treating empty space as a living force that shapes movement and storytelling becoming the vessel for communication. The dancers interact with space as an active participant, creating fluid, emotional narratives through tension, vulnerability, and intimacy. The piece speaks not only through movement but also engages the audience on a deeper, emotional level, allowing for personal interpretation.
